Angola's Ministry of Finance published an update on a seminar held under the Competition Regulatory Authority (ARC) advocacy strategy, focused on promoting dialogue and cooperation among financial sector operators as banking and insurance markets increasingly converge. The ARC administrator, Ana Ramalheira, noted that some identified banks have been making insurers’ work difficult and exceeding limits set in their own regulations, arguing for an initial educational approach in response to complaints received. The seminar reviewed the ARC’s institutional framework and Angola’s competition law regime, with emphasis on restrictive practices in bancassurance and competition risks linked to collective agreements and concerted practices. Participants included representatives from the National Bank of Angola, the Angolan Insurance Regulation and Supervision Agency, commercial banks and insurers.
