The alert covers The Bank of East Asia, Limited and Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited (fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens), DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited (fraudulent website) and The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (phishing instant messages), with links to the relevant bank notices provided on the HKMA website. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to banks’ websites to carry out transactions, and will not ask for sensitive information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted financial transactions via the scams is advised to contact the relevant bank using the information in the corresponding bank press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
