The Central Bank of Peru published an activity update showing the agricultural and livestock sector expanded 9.3% year on year in May, driven by higher agricultural production for both export and the domestic market, supported by better climatic conditions than in the previous campaign. Agricultural activity rose 11.6% year on year, with export-oriented production up 33% on a rebound in olive and avocado harvesting following last year’s El Niño-related disruption, alongside higher cocoa output linked to stronger farm-gate prices amid low global supply and improved water conditions. Domestic-market agriculture increased 4.5% and agroindustrial activity edged up 0.8% on higher hard yellow corn production. Livestock activity grew 3.3%, including a 3.9% increase in poultry, and the sector’s cumulative growth for January to May was 2.5%.
