The Bank of Finland has launched a reform of its statistical offering that will gradually replace traditional statistical tables and charts with interactive Microsoft Power BI dashboards and reorganise statistics more clearly by topic. The shift is intended to address technological obsolescence and make it easier for users to find and analyse information that is currently spread across multiple static tables and charts. Existing dashboards largely mirror the content of the Bank’s statistical surveys, including a credit institutions dashboard covering Finnish non-financial corporations’ and households’ loans and deposits based on the RATI (MFI) survey, and payment statistics dashboards published at quarterly, semi-annual and annual frequencies, with the annual view also combining current and legacy collections into longer time series. Additional dashboards cover areas such as other financial institutions’ lending, securities holdings and issuance statistics, and housing corporation loans, with further dashboards planned that combine data across surveys, including a saving and investing view combining deposits and securities statistics. As dashboard coverage expands, the Bank intends to discontinue legacy tables and charts in a controlled manner once the corresponding data are available in dashboards, with changes communicated well in advance. Users who programmatically access data are directed to use the Bank’s open data service, as the dashboards draw on time series available through its time series interface.
