The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has introduced TrekSEP, a tracking service in its System of Electronic Payments (SEP) that lets individuals and legal entities monitor payment transactions 24/7 from initiation to the crediting of funds. The service enables both payers and payees to view a transaction’s processing status and the timing of key stages, with initial coverage focused on account-to-account transfers using bank details or IBAN, including instant transfers delivered in SEP. TrekSEP uses a universal Unique End-To-End Transaction Reference (UETR) so users can retrieve detailed movement information for a transaction without personal data. From 1 April 2026, all SEP participants must generate a UETR for each SEP payment, provide the identifier to the payer, and transmit transaction status information to TrekSEP. The NBU framed TrekSEP as part of its SEP development roadmap for 2025–2030, alongside the shift to the SEP-4 generation based on ISO 20022 and the rollout of instant credit transfers, and outlined further development work including a multi-currency option, integration with SEPA infrastructure for cross-border transfers with EU member states, expanded use of ISO 20022, potential direct SEP access for certain nonbank payment service providers, and transaction-risk assessment services using analytics and artificial intelligence.
