The Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) has cancelled the Australian financial services (AFS) licence of CPG Research & Advisory Pty Ltd, with the cancellation taking effect from 2 October 2025, after ASIC became aware the firm had ceased carrying on a financial services business and had not paid industry funding levies outstanding for more than 12 months. CPG had held AFS Licence 243361 since 28 January 2004, authorising it to deal in and provide financial product advice to wholesale clients on deposit and payment products, debentures, bonds, interests in managed investment schemes (excluding investor directed portfolio services), securities and superannuation. ASIC referenced its powers under the Corporations Act 2001 to cancel where a licensee ceases business, and to cancel where levies imposed under the ASIC Supervisory Cost Recovery Levy Act 2017 remain unpaid for at least 12 months after the due date. The firm may apply to the Administrative Review Tribunal for a review of ASIC’s decision.
