The Department of Finance Canada announced that multilateral negotiations in Montréal on the Charter of the Defence, Security and Resilience Bank have concluded, marking an initial step toward creating a new multilateral lender focused on defence, security and resilience. The bank is intended to provide long-term, low-cost financing for initiatives across supply chains and to help small and medium-sized enterprises and member governments address critical financing gaps. Participating countries unanimously supported Canada serving as host country for the bank’s future headquarters once the Charter is ratified. The next phase is to establish and launch the institution, with Isabelle Hudon, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Business Development Bank of Canada, acting as Canada’s lead negotiator.
