The Central Bank of Mexico published a call for its 2025 Internal Summer Researchers Programme, run by the Directorate of Financial Education and Cultural Promotion, inviting PhD students to conduct short-term research on economic and financial education and related policy-relevant themes from a central bank perspective. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in a PhD programme in economics, finance, education, behavioural sciences, public policy or related fields, with priority for those in the thesis-writing phase, and must continue their studies in the autumn semester. Applicants are asked to submit a research proposal and work plan to produce an original, unpublished research paper within a maximum of two months, with priority topics including digital literacy, applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning to financial education initiatives, digital inclusion and cybersecurity, financial education in the context of the transition to a sustainable economy, behavioural economics or neuroscience approaches to decision-making, programme measurement and evaluation, and approaches for priority and vulnerable groups. Selected researchers will sign a professional services contract for up to 60 calendar days and may receive up to USD 6,800 in total fees before tax, including USD 2,500 per month for research (prorated for shorter stays), plus potential support for airfare (up to USD 1,500 for in-person stays of at least 53 days), temporary work visa costs for foreign nationals (up to USD 300) and a monthly food allowance (up to USD 200) for on-site work. Applications are due by 21 April 2025 at 23:59 Mexico City time, with selections to be notified by 13 May 2025. The programme typically runs between June and August, is planned to be in-person, and may be conducted in hybrid or remote form only on an exceptional basis with prior approval.
