Thailand’s Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) has extended its “Insured Restaurant and Café” initiative to Chonburi as the first provincial rollout after its launch in Bangkok, promoting embedded insurance as a way to raise safety standards in the restaurant sector and provide automatic protection to consumers. The model links insurance coverage to restaurant services so customers receive protection immediately when using participating venues without additional charges, while operators are positioned to manage risk through a low premium set at 0.1% of the coverage limit or sum insured. OIC highlighted Chonburi’s scale and economic profile as a basis for the pilot, including provincial gross product per capita of around THB 590,000 per year and more than 13,600 restaurant operators, and will award participating businesses an “Insured Restaurant and Café” mark to signal the programme’s safety standard. OIC indicated the next field activities will move to Chiang Mai, Phuket and Khon Kaen, including knowledge sessions, in-depth discussions and business matching between restaurant operators and insurance companies.
