The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has alerted the public to phishing instant messages connected to Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Asia) Limited, referring readers to the bank’s press release after the messages were reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to conduct transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords via phone, email or SMS (including via embedded hyperlinks). Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted transactions in response to the messages should contact the bank using the details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
