The Central Bank of Montenegro reported on an official visit by Governor Irena Radovic and her team to the Banco de España, focused on preparing the CBCG for potential future membership in the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and aligning its organisation and functions with ESCB standards. Banco de España Governor José Luis Escrivá signalled full support for further strengthening the CBCG and cooperation on developing the CBCG Strategic Plan for 2025–2028. Talks highlighted transparency as a tool for informing the public and supporting central bank independence, with Escrivá pointing to the CBCG’s early initiation of the International Monetary Fund’s Transparency Code Review, which confirmed a high level of transparency. The visit also included technical exchanges on implementing ESG standards, financial education and improving operational processes. Radovic also took part in a high-level conference on central bank management under an IPA project aimed at strengthening Western Balkans central banks’ capacity for integration into the ESCB, speaking on transparency and accountability mechanisms alongside discussions on strategic planning, supervision and challenges in the modern banking sector.
