The Chile Financial Market Commission (CMF) and the Central Bank of Chile (BCCh) launched the discussion forum “A century of Banking Regulation and Future Challenges for the Financial Market” as part of the commemoration of 100 years of banking regulation and supervision in Chile, with opening presentations by CMF Chairwoman Solange Berstein and BCCh Governor Rosanna Costa. Held at the BCCh’s Patio Inglés, the forum reviewed milestones in banking regulation and supervision since 1925, when the BCCh and the Superintendence of Banks and Financial Institutions (now part of the CMF) were established. Costa underlined the importance of cooperation between the banking supervisor and the central bank to strengthen the financial system and support public trust, while Berstein highlighted the role of innovation and technical dialogue in supporting a stable, efficient, and transparent financial market. A panel moderated by Rosario Celedón featured Rodrigo Valdés (International Monetary Fund), Kevin Cowan (Adolfo Ibáñez University), and José Manuel Mena (Association of Banks and Financial Institutions), and the event was livestreamed on the CMF and BCCh YouTube channels.
