In a press conference, Finance Minister Katayama, who oversees the Japan Financial Services Agency (JFSA), updated on the Ministry of Finance’s ongoing disclosure of documents related to the Moritomo Gakuen case and addressed media reports about a possible JFSA investigation into the issuer of SANAE TOKEN. He indicated that no specific enforcement or investigative action had been determined on the token in the absence of complaints or identified victims, while reiterating that the JFSA would act as necessary to protect users in line with laws and regulations. The sixth disclosure comprised around 28,000 pages, including e-mails involving staff other than Toshio Akagi, copies of electronic data from a Finance Bureau shared folder, and files prioritised at the bereaved family’s request. Disclosed materials included manager-level e-mails, an interview transcript with Moritomo Gakuen held at the Finance Bureau at the time, and internal examination materials, while the contents of the ministry’s investigation report on the falsification of approval documents were not confirmed in this tranche. Katayama said the seventh disclosure is being prepared to complete the release of the main “major documents” closely related to the case within March, including documents managed as administrative documents at the time such as approval documents. Separately, the ministry now expects the volume of other documents to exceed initial expectations, with paper-electronic documents anticipated to total more than 310,000 pages and to be more than double the major documents, and it is considering how to proceed in light of the bereaved family’s intentions. On SANAE TOKEN, Katayama referred to Prime Minister Takaichi’s public statement that he has no involvement with the token, and noted that while certain sales activity could fall within the crypto asset exchange business perimeter, the lack of inquiries meant the JFSA did not yet have a clear understanding of the situation, with any warnings or further action to depend on information that emerges.
