The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo hosted a workshop on open banking and used the event to outline its payments modernisation priorities. In opening remarks, Deputy Governor for Banking Operations Dardan Fusha said the adoption of the Law on Payment Services has created the legal basis for developing open banking in Kosovo and identified open banking, Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) integration and instant payments as the three pillars expected to shape the country’s payment system in the coming years. Participants from banks, non-bank payment institutions and electronic money institutions reviewed international developments, including European Union and regional practices and the challenges of implementing open banking in developing markets. Discussion also focused on regulatory alignment with European standards, including the Payment Services Directive (PSD2), and on the need for common standards, strong security and close cooperation across the financial ecosystem to enable consent-based data sharing and new business models.
