The Ministry of Finance (Brunei Darussalam) reported that Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew attended the 28th ASEAN+3 Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting and the 58th Asian Development Bank (ADB) Annual Meeting in Milan on 3 to 6 May 2025, where regional authorities endorsed a joint statement and Brunei highlighted policy priorities including renewable energy, food security and digital transformation. At the 4 May ASEAN+3 meeting, discussions covered regional economic developments and outlooks, policy responses to global risks, and initiatives to strengthen regional financial cooperation including the Strategic Directions of the ASEAN+3 Finance Process, the Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralization, the Asian Bond Markets Initiative and ASEAN+3 Future Initiatives, alongside presentations from the ADB, International Monetary Fund and ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office. Brunei’s intervention emphasised unity, cooperation and inclusive growth, resilience and stability amid global uncertainty, and continued partnerships with international financial institutions. At the ADB Governors’ business session on 5 May, Brunei set out priorities to reduce its carbon footprint through renewable energy investments and energy mix diversification, build resilient agricultural systems to enhance food security, and pursue ADB collaboration on digital transformation and workforce development; the minister also met ADB President Masato Kanda on Brunei’s economic outlook and diversification, and the potential for deeper cooperation including through ASEAN and BIMP-EAGA platforms.
