Mozambique's Ministry of Finance held a public consultation session in Inhambane on 8 October 2025 on the project to establish the Development Bank of Mozambique (BDM), a government initiative announced by President Daniel Chapo to expand long-term financing and support inclusive and sustainable economic growth. The proposed BDM is described as a public entity intended to channel resources to strategic sectors including industrialisation, agricultural modernisation, agro-processing, technological innovation and major infrastructure such as roads, energy, water and telecommunications. The project also aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises and promote Mozambique’s technological and digital transition, with the bank expected to be built on principles of good governance, transparency and professional management aligned with international best practices. The Inhambane session was positioned as part of a wider participatory process to gather input from across society, with the Ministry indicating it is seeking suggestions to shape the bank so it can respond to needs across the country, including those of entrepreneurs, farmers, young people and women.
