Guernsey's Ministry of Finance published a release summarising Chief Minister Deputy Lyndon Trott OBE’s meetings with UK Ministers and the Lord Mayor of the City of London, covering the UK–Crown Dependencies constitutional relationship, cooperation to tackle financial crime, and the economic relationship between Guernsey and the UK. Alongside representatives from Jersey and the Isle of Man, Trott met the UK Ministry of Justice, the Home Office and HM Treasury. Talks with Lord Ponsonby at the Ministry of Justice focused on the UK Government’s December 2024 response to the House of Commons Justice Committee’s March 2024 report, including strengthening direct working relationships with UK Government departments and addressing international trade issues. Discussions with Home Office Minister Dan Jarvis explored joint work on all forms of financial crime, including information exchange, transparency of beneficial ownership information and opportunities to support the Overseas Territories through training and capability building. An introductory meeting with Emma Reynolds, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, and discussions with the Lord Mayor focused on economic ties and the islands’ contribution to the UK Government’s growth agenda; Trott also noted UK Ministers’ comments on Guernsey’s recent MONEYVAL report, the UK’s preparations for a FATF assessment in 2027, and the islands’ role in implementing and enforcing international sanctions in the context of increased pressure on Russia.
