Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK) published a press release on its Santri Cakap Literasi Keuangan Syariah (SAKINAH) programme, run in collaboration with Nahdlatul Ulama’s Executive Board (PBNU) to strengthen Islamic financial literacy and support entrepreneurship among santri in pesantren. The event at Pondok Pesantren Darunnajah in Jakarta included the launch of a teaching module on entrepreneurship and Islamic financial literacy, alongside a symbolic opening of access to Islamic financial services for santri. The agenda covered an introduction to Islamic finance and warnings about illegal financial activities delivered by OJK, education sessions from the Islamic financial services industry, and presentations and interactive discussions on developing santri entrepreneurship. OJK stated that the module is intended for sustained use in pesantren and to be optimised across the wider network of schools under Nahdlatul Ulama’s education institutions, with the programme attended in person by hundreds of santri, teachers, parents and pesantren administrators. OJK framed SAKINAH as part of its wider financial education efforts to expand Islamic financial literacy and inclusion, including outreach to pesantren communities.
