The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) issued an alert on an ongoing phishing campaign using fraudulent WhatsApp messages and emails that falsely claim to originate from CIMA, with impersonators seeking to solicit personal information or payments. The messages use the subject line “Initiate Your Transaction with Pull Transfer” and include CIMA’s logo and physical address, while originating externally through fake domains and impersonation techniques. The scam misuses CIMA’s official address at 171 Elgin Avenue, George Town, SIX, Cricket Square, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. CIMA stated it does not communicate via WhatsApp and does not engage in Bitcoin schemes, and that its internal systems remain secure with no signs of unauthorised access or compromise. CIMA urged the public to verify the legitimacy of any communication claiming to be from the authority and to report suspicious emails or messages to CIMA.
