The Central Bank of Afghanistan (Da Afghanistan Bank) reported that Acting Governor Noor Ahmad Agha and a delegation participated in the Islamic Financial Services Board’s (IFSB) 23rd annual meeting in Rabat, hosted by Bank Al-Maghrib, where members reviewed and approved the IFSB’s prior-year activities and reports on Islamic banking and finance. The meeting brought together governors, deputy governors, and representatives from 34 central banks from Islamic countries. Discussions covered implementation of Shariah-based Islamic banking standards, strengthening stability and sound management across Islamic banking and non-banking sectors, financial inclusion, capacity building, and the use of digitalisation and financial technology, alongside plans to address global challenges in promoting Islamic banking and finance. Participants also exchanged experience on exports, imports, investment, and infrastructure financing through Sukuk. Separately, Agha met the IFSB Secretary-General, Dr. Ghiath Shabsigh, to discuss Shariah-aligned management improvements for Afghanistan’s banking sector and related capacity-building and training programmes.
