The Central Bank of the Republic of China published an event update on the official opening of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Shanghai Center, describing it as a regional hub intended to deepen the IMF’s engagement with Asia-Pacific economies through research and targeted capacity development. The note reports that the opening ceremony was attended by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, People’s Bank of China Governor Pan Gongsheng and Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng, with People’s Bank of China Deputy Governor Xuan Changneng participating in related activities. It outlines the center’s planned focus on policy issues relevant to emerging market and middle-income countries and links its establishment to efforts to support global and regional financial stability and broader international macroeconomic policy dialogue. Pan indicated the People’s Bank of China would continue to support the Shanghai Center’s construction and development alongside the Shanghai municipal government and the IMF, while the Shanghai government stated it would provide conditions and facilitation for efficient operations.
