The Central Bank of Luxembourg published results from its December 2024 consumer survey, showing a modest rebound in the consumer confidence indicator to -13, compared with -14 in November, despite mixed movements across the underlying components. Households’ expectations for the general economic situation over the next 12 months edged up to -15 (from -16), while expectations for their own future financial situation deteriorated to -5 (from -1). By contrast, perceptions of households’ past financial situation improved to -10 (from -13) and intentions to make major purchases strengthened to -21 (from -25). The headline indicator is the arithmetic mean of four seasonally adjusted components, each expressed as a balance between the weighted shares of consumers expecting improvement and those expecting deterioration.
