The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), together with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), has launched the IADS Developer Hackathon, kicking off a multi-month programme aimed at accelerating innovation for the Interbank Account Data Sharing (IADS) initiative and supporting the development of secure, customer-consented data-sharing solutions for banking. Organised by HKSTP, the hackathon runs from October 2025 to March 2026 and brings banks and fintech firms from around the world together to develop IADS-enabled use cases for retail, corporate and SME customers, with mentorship from banking professionals. The IADS initiative, formulated by the HKMA with industry support, sets rules and standards to allow customers to securely and efficiently share bank account data from one participating bank to other participating banks, subject to customer consent, with the stated benefits including digitalising operations, strengthening banks’ risk management and improving customer experience. Finalists will be invited to present at the IADS Developer Conference in March 2026, and winning teams may receive business expansion support, investor engagement opportunities and other channels for market development through HKSTP and partner organisations.
