The Ghana National Insurance Commission’s Acting Commissioner of Insurance, Dr Abiba Zakariah, used the inauguration of the new Insurance House in Kanda, Accra to call on insurance companies to design products that are accessible across demographics, with a focus on the informal sector. She framed broader insurance inclusion as necessary for financial protection and for building a resilient financial sector. Dr Zakariah highlighted that market women, farmers and artisans remain largely uninsured and urged the industry to make coverage accessible to all segments of society. The Ghana Insurers Association’s President, Seth Aklasi, described the Insurance House as a landmark industry project, while Benjamin Yamoah, Chair of the Ghana National Bureau of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme, urged institutions co-locating in the facility to translate the move into practical sector transformation. The three-storey facility with a basement was designed and constructed by Spektra Global.
