In a blog post, the chair of the Hong Kong Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority said the eMPF Platform has become one of Hong Kong’s most used digital platforms and indicated its administration fee could be reduced further to 20 to 25 basis points. That would be about two-thirds below the average administration fee of 58 basis points before eMPF was launched. The authority is also reviewing other Mandatory Provident Fund fee components, including member servicing and investment management fees, with the aim of lowering overall MPF fees. The review is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Since full eMPF operation began at the end of April, employer registration has reached 73%, with more employers using digital channels rather than paper for monthly contributions and employee enrolment. Member registrations have also increased as larger trustees have progressively onboarded the platform since the end of last year. The share of fund-switching instructions made digitally through eMPF has reached 82%. The post also highlighted operational changes for members, including digital account consolidation across schemes and a single view of MPF accounts and investment performance. The authority said the eMPF team will continue public engagement, targeted campaigns and educational initiatives to encourage employers and employees who have not yet registered to move onto the platform.
