The National Bank of Romania published its March 2026 international reserves data, showing foreign exchange reserves of EUR 67.032 billion at 31 March 2026, up from EUR 65.023 billion at 28 February 2026. Total international reserves (foreign exchange plus gold) rose to EUR 80.278 billion from EUR 79.639 billion over the same period. During March, inflows totalled EUR 9.424 billion, driven by changes in credit institutions’ foreign currency minimum reserve requirements at the central bank and funding of Ministry of Finance accounts, including proceeds from Ministry of Finance eurobond issues with nominal values of EUR 3.0 billion and approximately USD 1.731 billion. Outflows were EUR 7.415 billion, reflecting changes in those minimum reserve requirements, principal and interest payments on foreign-currency public debt of about EUR 638 million, payments from European Commission accounts, and other items. The gold reserve was unchanged at 103.6 tonnes, valued at EUR 13.246 billion. Foreign-currency public debt service due in April 2026, directly or guaranteed by the Ministry of Finance, totals around EUR 365 million. The next press release is scheduled for 4 May 2026.

March inflows of EUR 9.424 billion were mainly driven by changes in credit institutions’ foreign currency minimum reserve requirements and Ministry of Finance eurobond funding, while outflows of EUR 7.415 billion reflected reserve requirement changes and foreign-currency public debt service.
