The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic opened the 12th Economic and Financial Week (#sefBCRD) for 2026, a financial-education initiative under its Aula Central programme and aligned with Global Money Week, with 58 participating public and private institutions. Governor Héctor Valdez Albizu framed the event as supporting economic and financial literacy for children and young people and contributing to financial inclusion. The 2026 edition runs under the theme “Smart Money Talks” and extends activities beyond the Central Bank’s auditorium in Santo Domingo by adding the Eduardo León Jimenes Cultural Center in Santiago for the first time and holding two days of programming at the Perelló Cultural Center in the south, alongside the Bank’s regional office in Santiago. Planned activities include institutional information stands, guided visits, interactive workshops, specialised talks and the awards for the 13th “Economists of the Future” competition, which has reached 1,305 students from 435 schools since launch. The opening also marked the release of the children’s book Rojilandia, aimed at six-to-ten-year-olds, as part of the Central Bank’s educational bibliography.
