The Central Bank of Brunei Darussalam (BDCB), working with Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), held the second Brunei Darussalam Islamic Finance (BDIF) Symposium 2025 on “Navigating Digital Frontiers in Islamic Finance” and launched a dedicated BDIF website. The symposium, hosted at The Empire Brunei in Jerudong, brought together more than 200 participants from government, industry and academia. In opening remarks, BDCB highlighted global Islamic finance assets of USD 5.98 trillion and noted Southeast Asia as the second-largest hub with nearly USD 1 trillion in assets, alongside Brunei Darussalam’s ranking of 13th in the ICD-LSEG Islamic Finance Development Report 2025 and Islamic finance assets accounting for more than half of domestic financial system assets. The BDIF website is positioned as a central hub covering industry growth, the regulatory landscape and strategic initiatives, as well as research, education and talent development; the programme also included awards from UNISSA’s 2024 call-for-papers initiative, with selected papers published in a UNISSA special edition journal. A follow-on masterclass led by Dr Ziyaad Mahomed (INCEIF University, Malaysia) is scheduled for 3 December 2025.
