North Macedonia's Ministry of Finance reported that Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kocoska presented a five-year capacity development programme for the International Monetary Fund’s planned Regional Technical Assistance Centre for South East Europe (SEETAC) at a roundtable held alongside the IMF–World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington. SEETAC is intended to join the IMF’s global capacity development network and support the six Western Balkans economies and Moldova in strengthening institutions and policy-making in line with European standards. The first phase is set to focus on increasing fiscal space, improving revenue collection, raising the efficiency of public spending, strengthening monetary and financial policies, and improving statistics and analytical capacity. Support is expected to be delivered through resident advisers, experts, trainings, workshops and regional initiatives, and the total budget for the first five years was put at USD 70.4 million, with partnership between member states, the IMF and donors highlighted as important. SEETAC is scheduled to be operational by January 2027 at the latest.
