The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina reported that Governor Jasmina Selimovic met the Director of the Banks’ Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina to discuss the ongoing withdrawal of convertible mark (KM) banknotes that stopped being legal tender on 1 January 2025 and the operational arrangements for their exchange. Commercial banks are expected to play the central role in exchanging the withdrawn banknotes from 1 January 2025 until the end of 2025, after which exchanges will be possible only at the Central Bank from 1 January 2026 for a period of 10 years. The Central Bank also highlighted that KM 10, KM 20, KM 50 and KM 100 banknotes issued between 1998 and 2009 will be replaced with new banknotes designed to be more resistant to counterfeiting and to last longer in circulation, with the aim that only banknotes with identical and enhanced security features remain in use to simplify authenticity checks for the public, cash handlers and processing machines.
