The Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda has launched the licensing process for bancassurance agents for the 2026 and 2027 period, requiring agents to apply online via the Authority’s licensing portal and submit all required documentation and evidence of fee payment by Monday, 1 September 2025. Late or incomplete applications will attract penalties, and licences are expected to be renewed from Thursday, 1 January 2026 for a two-year period. Agents must remit the annual compliance fee of UGX 1,000,000 and provide evidence of payment for the 2026 compliance fee by 1 September 2025, reflecting that the statutory deadline of 31 August 2025 falls on a Sunday. The Authority also expects applicants to have settled any outstanding obligations to it, provide proof of 2026 membership in the Insurance Training College of Uganda, ensure all 2025 quarterly returns have been submitted, identify the authorised Principal Officer and specified persons (and their branches), submit a copy of the company Tax Identification Number, and evidence of professional indemnity insurance (sum insured of at least UGX 100,000,000) and fidelity guarantee insurance for relevant personnel expiring on or after 31 December 2026, alongside a valid Personal Data Protection Office registration certificate. Operational conduct during 2025, including complaint handling and responsiveness to the Authority, will be considered in renewal decisions, and any agent not published as licensed by the relevant date must bear its publication costs. The Authority will communicate, at a later date, the key documents that will be required annually.
