Natia Turnava, Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, participated in a scientific conference held for Economist’s Day, which also marked the thirtieth anniversary of the introduction of the Georgian lari. Speaking at the VII National Scientific Conference of Economists, titled “The Role of the National Currency in the Georgian Economy”, she pointed to growing public confidence in the lari and recognised the economists involved in its original issuance. Turnava described the economist profession as central to the country’s stability and development and linked recent economic performance to the work of both academic and practitioner economists, noting sustainable indicators despite global challenges. The conference included welcoming remarks from representatives of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Parliament’s Economic Policy Committee, and a former Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, and featured presentations by economists and National Bank of Georgia representatives on topics including the role of larization in financial stability, economic globalization, and Georgia’s future economic prospects.
