The National Bank of Slovakia published its 2025 status report on euro counterfeits recovered in Slovakia, reporting 2,389 counterfeit euro banknotes and 2,812 counterfeit euro coins. Banknote counterfeits were 28.6% higher than in 2024, while coin counterfeits were 9.7% lower; the bank characterised overall levels as long-term stable and relatively low compared with other euro area countries. Of the counterfeit banknotes, 1,770 (74.1%) were recovered from circulation and the most common denominations were EUR 50 (767) and EUR 100 (758). All counterfeit coins were recovered from circulation, with EUR 2 coins accounting for 2,564 (91.2%) of the total. The NBS also reported detection intensity of four counterfeit banknotes per one million genuine banknotes in circulation (14 per million across the euro area) and three counterfeit coins per one million genuine coins, and highlighted public guidance on checking banknotes (“feel, look and tilt”) and coins (including using a magnet and checking edge lettering for EUR 2), alongside a new free “Spoznaj euro” (Know the Euro) e-learning course that issues a PDF certificate valid for two years.
