The Bank of Italy, together with the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and the Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance (EIEF), has issued a call for papers for the “Innovation and Finance” research conference in Rome on 10-11 December 2026. The conference will focus on frontier research on the real and financial drivers of innovation, including how innovative firms emerge, are financed, grow, and scale. The call welcomes theoretical and empirical work on topics such as financing of innovation, financial frictions and capital allocation, firm dynamics from entry to scale-up, ownership and governance structures, knowledge diffusion and technology transfer, and public policy and regulatory interventions to foster innovation. Keynote speakers are Josh Lerner (Harvard Business School), Ramana Nanda (Imperial College London) and Gelsomina Vigliotti (European Investment Bank), and the organisers note there is no registration fee, with meals provided and economy-class travel and up to two nights’ accommodation covered for successful applicants from academic institutions in line with CEPR guidelines. Full papers must be submitted by 15 July 2026, with acceptance decisions to be announced by mid-September.
