The Central Bank of Morocco held the award ceremony for the second edition of the Bank Al-Maghrib Prize for Economic and Financial Research in Rabat, announcing the winners following a review and jury deliberation. A reading committee of university professors and experts assessed 30 submissions and shortlisted six candidates to present their research to the prize jury. The Prize for Excellence went to Faïçal Lakhchen (Ibn Zohr University, Agadir) for work on financial frictions and business cycle dynamics in Morocco using a nonlinear DSGE model augmented with a banking sector, the Encouragement Prize to Imane Bounadi (Hassan II Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine, Rabat) for research on water purification in Morocco’s olive oil industry, and the Jury’s Special Mention to Oumaima Er-reyyahy (Hassan II University, Casablanca) for research on determinants of the effectiveness of territorial public investment in Morocco. As guest of honor, Federal Reserve Board of Governors member Christopher J. Waller delivered a lecture on the role of academic research in developing public policies, with a focus on monetary policy.
