The Financial Action Task Force published a report on detecting, disrupting and investigating online child sexual exploitation, aimed at sharpening understanding of how these crimes are financed and strengthening the ability of public and private sector actors to identify related transactions and offenders. Drawing on case studies and expertise from across the FATF Global Network, the report focuses on two typologies: live-streamed sexual abuse of children, where consumers pay to watch real-time abuse remotely, and financial sexual extortion of children, where offenders threaten to expose sexually explicit images or videos unless paid. It highlights the importance of investigative techniques that address the needs of children at risk and sets out recommendations to stakeholders, including FATF Global Network members, on improving the use of financial intelligence to detect, disrupt and investigate these crimes.
