The Insurance State Supervision Service of Georgia reported that its head, Davit Onoprishvili, participated in a high-level meeting of insurance supervisors in Vienna on 3 December at the invitation of the Austrian Financial Market Supervisory Authority. He presented recent indicators for Georgia’s economy and discussed the development of the Georgian insurance market, and moderated a session on key challenges for insurance supervisors. Discussion in the fourth session centred on institutional strengthening, employment and training opportunities, and difficulties in attracting and retaining qualified staff. Onoprishvili also outlined steps being taken under the 2025–2029 development strategy developed by SARAS and the service’s future plans, while other sessions covered macroeconomic and systemic risks and the role of supervision in financial stability, regional and international cooperation, and the transformation of insurance and insurance supervision in the region. The service indicated that the exchange of information will support its work on addressing regulatory and supervisory challenges in Georgia by drawing on European experience.
