The Central Bank of Brunei Darussalam (BDCB) published the Business Sentiment Index (BSI) for June 2025, indicating broadly neutral business sentiment. The Current Business Conditions sub-index came in at 50.0 (no change versus the previous month), while the one-month-ahead index rose to 50.4, pointing to a slightly more optimistic near-term outlook. The monthly BSI is based on a survey of more than 500 businesses of all sizes across 11 economic sectors and all districts, with readings above 50 signalling expansion or optimism and below 50 signalling contraction or less optimism. BDCB linked June’s mixed conditions to uplift from the school holiday period and promotional activity around the 31st Consumer Fair and Trade Expo, partly offset by subdued domestic demand tied to cross-border shopping, operational disruptions and unfavourable weather. Sub-indices showed investment at 50.4 (current and one-month ahead) and 50.1 (three-month ahead), employment at 50.2 (current and one-month ahead), and costs at 49.9 (current) rising to 50.3 (one-month ahead). Sector results ranged from Transport and Communication at 50.8 on the positive side to Health and Education at 49.4 on the negative side, while by business size small firms recorded 50.5 and micro and large firms were at 50.0.
