The Bank of the Lao convened its annual 2024 inspection work conference, approving a draft annual summary of inspection activities and setting the direction and work plan for 2025. The one-day meeting also disseminated higher-level inspection and anti-corruption documentation, including the revised anti-corruption law and coordination memoranda with relevant state oversight, law enforcement, prosecutorial, judicial and audit bodies. Inspection results presented to the conference recorded 21 corruption cases in the banking sector, including six newly emerging cases and 15 linked to earlier matters, with total estimated losses of LAK 1,599.09 million and recoveries of LAK 137.43 million; four cases were reported as resolved. The update also cited recoveries in 2024 of LAK 4,741.22 million from earlier-period cases and the resolution of three further cases, alongside the temporary suspension of three staff and disciplinary action against 167 party members and employees (59 at level I, 80 at level II, 20 at level III and 8 at level IV). Certificates recognising 29 party units as “clean, strong and solid” were awarded, and 180 participants attended (69 women).
