The State Bank of Vietnam, via the Vietnam Banking Union chaired by Deputy Governor Pham Tien Dung, has held a kick-off meeting to launch the 2026 Banking Sector Digital Transformation competition, positioning it as a sector-wide programme to promote digital skills and practical innovation across credit institutions and banking-sector units. The competition is structured around three rounds covering team introduction, a knowledge contest and an initiative pitch. The knowledge component draws on a 400-question bank split across eight topic groups spanning data, technology, governance, legal issues and practical applications, and includes both open and “sealed” questions added shortly before the contest; question selection is digitised to minimise human intervention. The innovation round focuses on proposals linked to core digital transformation themes such as process automation, data governance and cybersecurity, with topics allocated by drawing lots. Judging will be conducted by experts from regulators, training institutions and independent consultants, with no commercial bank representatives; the top team may be proposed for a commendation from the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, and results may be considered in each unit’s recognition and human resource development processes. The event is scheduled for 22–23 May 2026 at the Viet Tiep Friendship Labour Cultural Palace, with 32 teams participating, and Vietcombank acting as a coordinating partner. Organisers also encourage institutions to run internal competitions to broaden staff participation.
