The Sri Lanka Securities and Exchange Commission has opened applications from qualified Shariah Scholars for accreditation and inclusion in its panel of Accredited Shariah Scholars, who are recognised under the SEC Act No. 19 of 2021 as supplementary service providers able to certify Shariah compliance for Islamic capital market products before they are published or listed in Sri Lanka. The call follows a 2024 evaluation process, including in-person interviews, that resulted in six professionals meeting the SEC’s criteria. To broaden the pool and attract both local and international scholars, the SEC has revised its guidelines for Shariah Scholars and set out the documentation and eligibility requirements, including submission of a current CV and a signed affidavit in the prescribed form; short-listed applicants will be invited to a preliminary interview. Applications close at 16:00 (Sri Lanka time) on 31 March 2026.
