The U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs’ Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren and Senators Mazie Hirono and Richard Blumenthal sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi seeking information on the Trump Administration’s oversight of crypto exchange Binance’s obligation to exit the U.S. market under its 2023 guilty plea and USD 4.3 billion settlement and plea agreement. The lawmakers said the Department of Justice’s September reply to their earlier May inquiry did not directly address key questions or confirm Binance’s compliance with ongoing settlement requirements, including requested details on compliance obligations, the timeline for exiting the U.S. market, and whether the company sought a pardon for its former chief executive. The letter also cited reports that President Trump and his family have increased financial ties to Binance through World Liberty Financial, and that Binance may be pursuing an arrangement with DOJ that would remove its outside compliance monitor, described as a “key oversight requirement” in the settlement. The Senators requested meaningful answers from DOJ by October 1, 2025.
