The Slovenia Insurance Supervision Agency, together with the Slovenian Insurance Association, published consumer-facing guidance on travel insurance, explaining how policies can help manage medical and other financial risks when travelling abroad. The guidance notes that travel insurance typically applies worldwide except in the policyholder’s country of residence, and recommends choosing higher sums insured for destinations with materially higher healthcare costs, including the United States, China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. It cites that treatment costs can quickly run into tens of thousands of euros, giving an example of a foot operation and a single night in a US hospital costing EUR 35,500, and highlights that Slovenian insurers offer products with 24-hour assistance in Slovenian, available as single-trip or annual policies with cover tailored to destination and trip duration.
