The Financial Superintendency of Colombia (SFC) published the maximum premiums for the Mandatory Traffic Accident Insurance (SOAT) that will apply in 2026, updating tariff caps by vehicle category. Tariffs for the differential-risk categories defined in Decree 2497 of 2022, as amended by Decree 2312 of 2023, are adjusted in line with the annual change in the Tax Value Unit (UVT), set at 5.17% for 2026, while maximum tariffs for the remaining categories increase by approximately 0.38%. The SFC maintained the special conditions for the 14 vehicle categories covered by differential SOAT tariffs; the other categories represent about 50% of the insured vehicle fleet. In its tariff analysis based on insurers’ reported data, the SFC noted that the insured vehicle fleet rose by about 7% to around 10.6 million policies (from 9.9 million), accident frequency fell from 9.3% in 2024 to 8.2% in 2025, average claim severity increased by about COP 179,000 to COP 2.8 million (from COP 2.6 million), and overall SOAT claims ratio declined by 4.9% between 2024 and 2025. The release also reiterates consumer guidance to purchase SOAT through official channels and to verify that insurers and intermediaries are authorised and supervised to avoid fraudulent policies.
