The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) issued a public warning about an increase in scams involving individuals impersonating CySEC officers or representatives via email and fake online accounts. The impersonators reportedly solicit investors for fees in exchange for the alleged settlement of bogus compensation claims linked to firms under CySEC supervision. CySEC reminded the public that it does not call individuals, send unsolicited correspondence, or request personal, financial, or other information. It also stated it has no mandate to collect fees from individual investors or appoint anyone to do so, and that it does not authorise, verify, monitor, or engage in class actions, compensation schemes, or payments between natural or legal entities. CySEC urged recipients of purported CySEC communications to verify authenticity before taking action, noting that genuine addresses end in cysec.gov.cy but can be spoofed, and to report suspicious activity to the regulator.
