The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan published securities market indicators for January 2025, showing a KZT 786.9 billion (2.4%) fall in equity market capitalisation to KZT 32.1 trillion as of 1 February 2025, alongside weaker secondary-market trading in shares and corporate bonds. The market capitalisation decline was mainly attributed to price falls in Kaspi.kz (down 4.7%), Air Astana (down 5.0%) and KazMunayGas (down 5.3%), while the KASE Index rose 1.2% to 5,644.41 points. Share trading volume fell 35.1% to KZT 18.8 billion; the KASE Global sector turnover fell 41.5% to KZT 7.5 billion. Corporate debt outstanding on KASE increased 2.3% to KZT 14.0 trillion, but corporate bond trading dropped 83.0% to KZT 101.0 billion and the primary corporate bond market stood at KZT 44.8 billion as of 1 February 2025 (down 90.3% from December 2024). Government debt outstanding edged down 0.2% to KZT 27.0 trillion, while government securities trading rose 2.5 times to KZT 0.6 trillion and primary-market trading increased more than 12-fold to KZT 0.3 trillion, including KZT 286.1 billion raised by the Ministry of Finance. The update also reported 58 unit investment funds with KZT 350.2 billion in assets under management, 3.7 million Central Securities Depository nominee accounts (up 6.4% in January), and a decline in securities market participants’ assets to KZT 729.9 billion.
