The National Bank of Moldova reported that Governor Anca Dragu spoke at the launch of the Female Entrepreneurship Index, presenting gender equality as a condition for balanced development and flagging women’s continued under-representation in senior decision-making. Dragu cited the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Index, where Moldova ranks 13th out of 156 countries, up from 19th in 2023 and 28th in 2021, while noting persistent gaps across the economy, education, health and politics. She highlighted that women in Moldova are on average more educated than men but earn about 15.5% less and reach leadership roles less often. Dragu also pointed to the central bank’s own figures of 64% female staff and 53% of management roles held by women, referencing OMFIF assessments that place the bank among European financial institutions with high gender representation, and described the ‘FinanciarELE’ mentoring and training community aimed at supporting women pursuing financial-sector careers. In connection with the event, Dragu contributed an editorial to the index publication, while the organisers described the Female Entrepreneurship Index as a strategic tool to identify barriers to women’s access to economic resources, financing and decision-making roles and to promote solutions and good practices.
