The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) published an alert drawing attention to scam-related press releases issued by The Bank of East Asia, Shanghai Commercial Bank, Chong Hing Bank, Fubon Bank (Hong Kong) and DBS Bank (Hong Kong), following reports to the HKMA of fraudulent websites, fake internet banking login screens, phishing emails and other scams. The scams cited relate to fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens for each of the five banks. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. The authority advised anyone who provided personal information or conducted transactions in response to these scams to contact the relevant bank and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
