The Central Bank of Chile released preliminary National Accounts results for the first quarter of 2025 showing GDP growth in fifteen of the country’s sixteen regions, with national GDP up 2.3%. Household consumption was positive in thirteen regions, consistent with 1.8% growth for the country as a whole. All macrozones contributed positively to national GDP, with the Metropolitan Region and the Centre-South zone providing the largest contributions, while all geographic zones contributed to household consumption led by the Metropolitan Region. National GDP growth was driven mainly by trade, manufacturing and personal services, while mining weighed on the aggregate outcome despite mixed regional results. Household consumption growth was led by durable goods and supported by non-durables, while services consumption rose 0.1% nationally as increases in health, transport and restaurants and hotels were offset by tourism spending; regionally, Tarapacá recorded a 15.4% GDP contraction largely due to copper mining, while Aysén grew 8.5% and Atacama 7.7% on strength in activities including aquaculture, construction and copper mining.
