The Chile Financial Market Commission’s Board sanctioned four banking institutions a total of UF 1,628.7 for granting loans to parties listed in the National Registry of Alimony Payment Debtors (RNDPA) and failing to apply the required controls and withholdings. Under Law No. 14,908 on Family Abandonment and Alimony Payments, financial institutions must consult the RNDPA when granting loans and, if applicants appear as debtors, withhold up to 50 percent of the funds and pay the relevant amounts to settle pending alimony. The fines were UF 1,099.88 for Banco Santander-Chile, UF 280.54 for Banco Consorcio, UF 197.16 for Banco Itaú, and UF 51.12 for Banco de Crédito e Inversiones.
